We have had a super busy week getting back into the swing of things! This week, we talked about winter. Here are some of the important things we learned...
Our centers this week included finding words with blends and digraphs and writing them, listening to the story Snowmen at Night and writing about our own snowmen (text to self connection), writing about winter, playing blends games such as Say It, Pop It, Write It, reading books on RAZkids and coming to reading group.
Our Writing lessons this week focused on writing and drawing stories that have lots of details. We practiced proper capitalization, then reread our stories to add more.
During Phonics this week, we reviewed the /j/ and /k/ sounds and practiced the power words no, go, so, and like. We read a story called Kim's Dog Jack and wrote about it. We also worked on reviewing power words, medial sounds, and digraphs.
In Reading, we read the books Going Places and Walking Through the Jungle and practiced making predictions using "I Wonder" statements. We reviewed important sight words and learned new vocabulary: assemble, contraption, participate, and startled.
In this week’s Second Steps lesson, we learned different ways we can show kindness at school. We shared ideas for kind acts we could do for one another. Ask your child to tell you about the kind acts they and their classmates have been doing for one another at school this week.
We started our new pilot Math program for the next few weeks and are focusing on strategies for adding objects and representing addition as adding to a number. We will continue to work on adding numbers together and writing and solving equations in the coming weeks.
