We had fun celebrating the 100th Day of School this week!
Our literacy centers included activities that focus on words that begin and end with blends, counting to 100 activities and writing about various 100th day topics.
During Phonics, we continued to work on reading and writing blends and digraphs. We talked about letters Q and U and how they always go together. We learned the new power word "want" and revisited "are".
In this week’s Second Steps lesson, we learned that apologizing is one way to begin to solve problems. They’ll practice using the phrases, “I’m sorry. Are you okay? How can I help?” as a way to help solve problems. Ask your child to teach you the three parts of the apology they learned. Encourage them to apologize when the opportunity arises at home.During Math, we worked on decomposing teen numbers using tens and ones. We learned how to count on from ten and add ones to form a teen number. Ask your child to teach you!
During Reading, we listened to and discussed part of an expository nonfiction book about school. We worked on answering comprehension questions. We talked about a table of contents and used pictures and captions to build knowledge about our topic. We continued reading our power words as well.
In Writing, we listened to a nonfiction book about nurses and wrote our own nonfiction writing about what we want to be when we grow up. We talked about ending punctuation including periods, exclamation points, and question marks. We learned the new vocabulary words: colorful, attend, experiment, and magnify.
We talked more about speed, forces of motion, and position during Science. We are excited to build our galimotos next week!
We had so much fun during our 100th Day celebration, Global Play Day and on our field trip (pics coming soon)! Ask your child to tell you all about it!
