Wrapping Up Insects!

This week we learned about the life cycle of a butterfly and continued talking about insects.  Here are some of the important things we learned...

Our centers this week included learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and writing about butterflies, reading and writing words with blends and silent e, writing about when we feel grouchy just like The Grouchy Ladybug, and learning about the life cycle of a ladybug.

We worked on long vowels this Phonics this week and practiced adding silent e's to the end of words. We read and wrote words with long vowels.  We also learned the power word "your".

We wrapped up our subtraction unit this week and will focus on numbers to 100 these last few weeks of school! Please continue working on subtraction problems at home with your child.

In Reading, we listened to and discussed a nonfiction book about the sun. We used text features to build knowledge about the sun and to learn about things we wondered about.  We also read a nonfiction story about bugs and sorted the names of the bugs by the number of syllables.  Our vocabulary words included bright, sphere, creature, and survive.

We continued writing opinion pieces in writing.  We worked on being persuasive and convincing. Next week, we will start our final writing unit and will start getting ready for first grade writing!

In Science, we talked about temperature and learned how to read a thermometer. We also talked about severe weather and ways to prepare.

We talked about choices and how to make good choices during Counseling with Ms. Peterson.

A very BIG thank you to Mrs. Phillips for the caterpillars! We are excited to observe them through their life cycle!

Looking ahead...
